From the resort, we descend to Sferracavallo along the paved road for about 6 km and then take an off-road track that runs alongside the Paglia River for 4 km, until we reach the village of Ciconia, where we join the SS71, which we follow for another 7 km until the junction for Poggio Montone.
From an altitude of 150 meters, we cycle for about 12 km uphill on a dirt road until we reach an altitude of 320 m in La Sala, surrounded by the endless vineyards of the Antinori – Castello della Sala farm (about 160 hectares of vineyards). A small detour allows us to skirt the beautiful winery and the remarkable 4th-century Castello della Sala.
We return to our route and arrive at the Calanchi, spectacular sandstone formations, along whose ridges we ride for about a kilometer, with passages overlooking breathtaking cliffs. Now we prepare to tackle the most technical part of this route: a steep off-road descent that takes us back to an altitude of 170 m in less than 1 km.
After a flat stretch and a small ford to cross, a new climb awaits us, short but challenging: in just 2 km we reach an altitude of 260 m. From here, we descend to Allerona Scalo and ride 15 km on flat, paved road to Sferracavallo.
Once in Sferracavallo, we turn towards Rocca Ripesena and return to the resort, tackling the last climb: 5 km on paved road with an elevation gain of about 160 m.
